Summary

Minho knew very well what was awaiting him today. How could anyone have missed what went on that show earlier? Minho was not stupid. He knew this day would come, he just didn't know it would be this soon.

“So that’s it?” he asked.

“Yes.”

Minho didn’t say anything. He knew this day would come, he just didn’t know it would be this soon, and he didn’t know it would be because of this.

“Minho, it’s over” She mistook his silence. Most people would do that, because he is usually very quiet and when he was angry he would just stay silent.

“I know.”

Minho was never the kind of person who asked many questions, nor did he say useless things. If you didn’t know him, you might find him awkward, or maybe even arrogant.

Yoona couldn’t read what he was thinking, and the silence burdened both of them. It was as if it made even a bigger void between them, removing any sign of emotions and pulling them further apart.

Minho didn’t say anything; he was staring at his coffee cup, but he was not really looking at it. His gaze was empty; it told nothing of what he was thinking.

Yoona sat across him, not knowing what to say either. Restless fidgeting with her own coffee cup, eyes carefully examining Minho. This is what she wanted right? She wanted to be free from Minho, didn’t she?

So why was she hoping for something? What was she hoping for? That Minho would beg her to stay?

No, Minho was not that kind of person.

Suddenly her mobile vibrated, shaking both of them off their thoughts. She pulled her phone out of her bag to find a message from Jaebum, asking if she was okay. She smiled a little, without knowing what she should do with him. She was definitely charmed by him; who wouldn’t be she asked herself.

“You should go to him.” Minho’s voice startled her.

“What?”

“I said you should go to him,” Minho repeated. His voice was emotionless and not once did he look up to see her face.

“You… knew?”

“Of course I knew.”

Minho’s answers were always like that. He never gave reasons for what he did or what he said, because –as he himself sees it- he doesn’t have to. He would never fool around to garner your attention, nor would he say things he didn’t really mean.

The silence heeled over them once again.

At last Yoona decided to leave. She got up from her seat, walking towards the exit. When she was beside Minho she suddenly stopped. At that point she was no longer in control of her own body, she felt as she was hovering in the air looking down at someone else. Someone was lifting her hand and put it on Minho’s shoulder. Someone made her squeezing it lightly. Someone made her open her mouth, and then closing it again because no words would come out.

“Mian…” she tried.

“Don’t.” Minho cut her off.

The rest of the word clogged up in her throat. Minho’s voice pulled her back to reality, in fact she crash landed. His voice and face might be emotionless, but Yoona knew better. Quickly she withdrew her hand.

An air of awkwardness filled the spaces between them.

Looking down at her hands Yoona saw the couple ring Minho had given her on their anniversary not long ago. This IS what she wanted, right?

For a minute she didn’t know if she should keep it or return it, but in the end she decided to return it. Taking it off, she dropped it softly on the table before walking away.

As she walked towards the exit, she felt as it would swallow her and eat her alive. Unknowingly she slowed down her pace, as if she was anticipating something. What she didn’t know. Finally she stopped by the door and turned around to take one last look. Minho was still frozen in the same position. Not once had he turned to look for her, or called for her.

Realizing that, Yoona finally gathered the courage and stepped out of the coffee shop, promising herself never to look back.
